The Castros Culture in the northwest of the peninsula reveals a strong personality and an originality recognised by every expert.
From small villages of the Bronze Age to big urban agglomerations of the Iron Age, this culture represents important innovations that have characterised “the first Europe”.
Guimarães and some neighbour cities were lucky to have been explored by Martins Sarmento, a great archaeologist, who devoted his life to this culture, valuing the vestiges of our ancestors that he managed to find.
This Tour tries to show the archaeological patrimony of the region in what concerns the Castros culture, also honouring Martins Sarmento for his interest in studying our most profound historical roots.
